FA Cup-winning hero Kanu’s Portsmouth faux pas on anniversary of Wembley glory

And that’s meant plenty of reminiscing over the Wembley win, as well as the Blues faithful reliving the game’s key moments on social media.

Things went a little awry this afternoon, however, as Pompey tweeted a video of Kanu’s winner in the 1-0 success on May 17, 2008.

The man, nicknamed King, was as cool as you like in front of a 89,874 on that legendary afternoon but fluffed his lines this time around, as he responded: ‘Play on Pompey, Pompey play on’.

Kanu may not be able to remember two of the six words to the Blues’ world-famous chant, but supporters managed to see the funny side of his slip-up.

‘If King Kanu says that’s the chant that’s the chant,’ quipped Joe Wallace in a light-hearted riposte.

‘Close enough!’ added Sam, while Ben Tabbner comeback was: ‘Nah, that’s the chant from now on, cheers King.’

And Dan Fearnley kept up the banter as he replied: ‘Only Kanu can get it so wrong and still be a legend. Wanted to use Nwankwo as my daughter’s middle name but I wasn’t allowed.’
