The ex-Blues loanee has announced his loan spell at Tranmere has expired and will now return to parent club Bradford.

The 31-year-old moved to Prenton Park in January despite scoring 11 goals in 27 appearances in his debut season for the Bantams in League Two.

However, his short stint at Rovers – the 13th league club of his career – has been cut short after League One clubs this week decided to end the season prematurely.

That decision sees Tranmere relegated to League Two after one season in the third tier, with Vaughan departing with three goals in 11 appearances.

The forward arrived on loan at Fratton Park last term as Kenny Jackett attempted to reinforce his side’s promotion push in the 2019 winter transfer window.

However, Vaughan failed to score in 11 Pompey appearances as the Blues lost their play-off semi-final against Sunderland.

Announcing his Tranmere departure on Twitter, the former Everton and Crystal Palace front man said: Thanks to everyone @TranmereRovers loved my short spell there!

‘Gutted it ended the way it has!

‘I really do believe we would have stayed up. Great club and wish you all the best in the future.’
