Aidy Boothroyd is set to leave his role this summer when his contract expires after the Young Lions' embarrassing European Championships campaign.

Despite beating Croatia last night, England failed to make it out of their group in what can only be described as an underachievement given the talent in the set-up.

The likes of Frank Lampard and Mark Warburton are reportedly on the FA’s shortlist to take over the role.

However, Foster - who is currently England's under-19s coach - is also apparently in the reckoning.

The Liverpudlian joined Pompey as part of Paul Cook's backroom staff in the summer of 2015.

However, Foster left the Blues in February 2017 – only months before Cook’s side captured the League Two title.

He took up a role with England under-17s before progressing up the ladder at St George’s Park to become under-19s head coach in August 2020.

Foster’s also assistant head coach of the senior women’s side.

Recently speaking to The News, the 44-year-old revealed that Pompey defender Haji Mnoga remains on England’s radar having featured at under-17 level.

Foster said: ‘The talent emerging across the country is vast, but Haji has had an opportunity and could potentially get one again.

‘We are always open minded about the level of performances and hopefully Haji kicks on and shows everyone what he is capable of doing.

‘It does him no harm scoring at Cheltenham when I was there. It was a great finish as well.’
