Former Portsmouth and Spurs boss Harry Redknapp explains his role at Bournemouth

The 73-year-old was asked by Woodgate if he would be interested in helping out and has subsequently agreed to take up a voluntary involvement, although not in a coaching capacity.

Redknapp will be involved for an unspecified period of time as the Cherries weigh up their next move following Jason Tindall’s sacking last week.

“He rang me up (Woodgate) and said Harry, look, he doesn’t know anybody down here,” Redknapp explained to talkSPORT.

"He's got Stephen Purches with him, big Fletch (Steve Fletcher) - good coaches but he said ‘look, if I need any insight into the club or advice, would you (help)? I said of course I’m here for you John at the end of the phone, not a problem.

"He said ‘well maybe if you come over and watch a bit of training one day, we’ll have a cup of tea and chat’, I said, of course I will, I’ve got nothing to do, I’m sitting here. So yeah, that was it.

"If I can help him in any small way but officially, no, I’m not involved and I really don’t want to be involved in all honesty, I just want to help If I can.

"I love the club, I love big Woody, so that’s the only interest for me."

Redknapp has been out of management since leaving Championship Birmingham in September 2017.

His second spell as Pompey boss ended in October 2008 when he opted to join Tottenham Hotspur - just months after leading the Blues to FA Cup glory.

"Every year I buy my tickets for Bournemouth, I buy my season books, I take my grandkids, I love the club, it’s where I go every Saturday to watch football.

"If I can help, I see the team every match, so If John wants to know my opinion on the players or where’s best for them or whatever.

"He’s come in and hasn’t had a lot of time, so if I can help him in any shape or form, I will do.”
