The forward has today revealed he is leaving the crisis-hit Latics, who are currently in administration, after more than three years at the club.

The 36-year-old made 66 appearances for the DW Stadium outfit following his Fratton Park exit in 2017.

A popular figure at the Blues and a key member of the 2016-17 League Two-title-winning side, Roberts joined former boss Paul Cook at Wigan after being told he had no PO4 future by Kenny Jackett.

In total, the Liverpudlian made 80 appearances for Pompey, scoring 20 goals, over a two-year period.

He now joins Cook and a host of others in leaving the club following their administration and relegation to League One.

Breaking the news of the move on Twitter with a heartfelt message, Roberts said: ‘So my 3 an half years at Wigan are up.

‘The position the club is in at the minute with not allowed to sign players because of being in administration, so I’ll be leaving an looking for a new club.

‘I’ve loved every minute of playing for the club, we’ve had so many great nights.

‘It’s been heartbreaking to see what’s happened to club an squad over last few months with no fault of our own, probably hardest thing I’ve had to go through in my career.

‘So stick together an keep fighting for your club.

‘See you soon. Robbo.’

Roberts missed out on a Pompey reunion back in September as he missed the Latics’ League One win at Fratto Park with a hamstring injury.
