Turnbull also trained with Doswell's side last Thursday as he bids to earn a short-term move away from Fratton Park to gain much-needed match experience.

Pompey boss Kenny Jackett contacted Doswell to see if he would be interested in running the rule over the towering 6ft 7in stopper with a view to a loan switch.

The Blues are keen for the American to gain regular minutes away from PO4 with Alex Bass and Craig MacGillivray above him in the goalkeeping pecking order.

Turnbull, who signed in March following a successful trial, will also feature in the club’s friendly at Horndean on Saturday.

And Doswell revealed he will make his mind up on the American following that game.

The Hawks boss said: ‘Kenny rang me last week and he really, really likes him.

‘He asked me if we’d be interested in looking for a loan because he’s got two excellent goalkeepers who are one and two at the minute.

‘Duncan played for us Saturday so we could have a look at him and he’ll be playing against Horndean on Saturday.

‘Duncan trained with us last Thursday, he played on Saturday and he’ll be in with us on Tuesday and Thursday of this week then he’ll play against Horndean.

‘We’ll speak to Kenny and John Keeley, the goalkeeping coach, after that and see how we go from there.’

Doswell was satisfied with what he saw from the American at AFC Totton.

He praised Turnbull for pulling off a 'very good' early save and admitted there was nothing that could have been done to keep out Ethan Taylor's deflected opener.

‘He did well enough,' Doswell added.

‘He did not have loads to do on the day because I thought we were fairly dominant.

‘Duncan made a very good save in the first 15 minutes and there was nothing he could do with the goal, it was massively deflected.

‘He did what he had to do.’
