That’s the message from Kenny Jackett following Tuesday night’s rare first-team outing for the forgotten striker.

Back in the squad for the first time in six matches, Hawkins was thrown into the action after 54 minutes of the Leasing.com Trophy semi-final against Exeter.

Hawkins has endured a frustrating campaign hampered by injury, restricting him to just 10 outings.

Now he’s back for the Blues’ challenge on three fronts.

Jackett said: ‘We know Oli can help us, definitely, and is a player and person I have a lot of time for.

‘He has been a little unlucky in terms of selection and injuries at different times, but is not somebody I have ever wanted to go anywhere.

‘However, I do think in terms of player and personality he can bring a lot to us in the final few months.

‘Oli made an impact against Exeter. Maybe with John coming from slightly deeper he takes the focus off him – as a goalscorer, sometimes always being the focal point isn’t that easy, with the timing to make those third-man runs off someone.

‘He’s had a frustrating time, but all that matters now is he’s back and with us. I am sure he will stay fit for the next few months.’

With Ellis Harrison a doubt for Saturday’s trip to Fleetwood through his dead leg, it brings Hawkins into the frame once again.

Pompey have at least 16 fixtures remaining over the campaign’s duration – and last year’s Wembley hero will be involved.

Jackett added: ‘It’s a big few months for us and Oli will play his part, I am pleased to have him here.

‘We also have the Arsenal game in the FA Cup, that will be a big match, and now, I am pleased to say, a Wembley appearance in a couple of months.’
