The Blues are on the lookout for a new left-back following Cam Pring’s return to parent club Bristol City.

And although a move for former loanee Steve Seddon has been mooted, emphasis has shifted towards a move for 34-year-old Daniels in recent days.

The former Bournemouth favourite only joined the Shrews in October following his Cherries release last summer.

He’s since featured 16 times for the League One outfit. But his original deal was only a short-term one until January – meaning he could arrive at Fratton Park on a free transfer.

Such a signing would go against manager Kenny Jackett’s normal transfer approach, with the Blues boss tending to stay away from signing players over the age of 30. It would also go against the youthful vision of the Eisners.

On the other hand, with five years operating in the Premier League and two successful promotion campaigns behind him, Daniels could provide valuable experience as the Blues go for promotion to the Championship once more.

Meanwhile, Jackett himself said age should be no barrier in his hunt for a new left-back.

They’re some of the arguments that have emerged since news of Pompey’s interest emerged over the weekend.

And to gauge what side of the fence Blues fans sit when it comes to Daniels’ potential arrival, we’ve taken to Twitter to see the lay of the land.

Unsurprisingly, the majority of fans are in favour of such a move.

But, as you’d expect on social media, there are some who are against it.

Here’s a selection of those views shared, with the for and against verdicts used representing the split in opinion.

For the move

@Clarkeyboy12345: Be a decent signing as much experience we can get in to get us over the line the better.

@gregb100: Hopefully not interested in signing with us just because we are close to Bournemouth. Could suit us and him. Bring some much needed experience to the squad.

@wfisk90: He’s been absolutely outstanding for Shrewsbury too in the last few weeks.

Big part of their revival. Get him here to cover Brown until the end of the season.

@Ali_lance: Yes please, he always scored well in my Fantasy Football Team.

Even at his age, he’s too good for League One, would be a brilliant signing at this level if he can stay fit.

@thedurwestoner: That would be a good move. Experience at a higher level and at 34 still has something to offer.

@BillyCo64588970: Yes, for the experience. A short term deal is a good idea with his age. Bit of a no-brainer as he has done well for every club he has played for.

@scottpompey: Steady player at this level , makes sense.

@PapaBoubaDave: Get it done, good experience for the run in.

@Pompeygaz72: Quality full back imho. Would prove a good signing for us.…

@ChrisOverthrow: Though age shouldn't matter i bet a 45 year old Messi or Ronaldo could still tear up league one so I'm sure a 34 year old daniels could do a job for us.

@GavH_: Personally think that’s a good coup if it happens.

@PompeyNev: That would be a brilliant signing imo. He was a key player when Bournemouth won promotion and in their early Premier League days.

Against the move

@pompeygdp: Seems like another short term fix, best days are behind him.

@PompeyTwiter: No no no, we are already lacking pace in that position!

Surely now is the time to get January right and sign Seddon + high energy CM.

@Alfredo52083790: I’d rather play Lee Brown.

@Matt_Smith78: "Invest in youth" were words heavily repeated by the Eisners!

@adolfdas183: Cheap option once again 34 and 31 year old left backs building for the future right there.
