'Just a scratch' - Sean Raggett downplays injury as Portsmouth prepare to make call on his Burton availability

News on Sean Raggett’s availability for Saturday’s home game against Burton on Saturday should be made clearer today.

Blues boss Danny Cowley will hold is usual pre-match press conference at midday, when further light will be shed on the head injury the no-nonsense defender picked up during Monday’s win at Wigan.

The centre-back clashed heads with Latics forward Callum Lang as he attempted a header, with Cowley admitting at the final whistle that a fractured cheekbone looked the consequence.

Since then Raggett has taken to Twitter twice to reveal the extent of the injury he suffered.

The first picture, taken on Monday, showed him with his left eye heavily swollen and a bloodied wound mark on his suspected broken cheekbone.

The second, posted on Wednesday, shows the defender sporting a still swollen left eye, which has completely closed over – accompanied by a taped-up lesion that appears to have required stitches.

Yet the robust ace downplays the picture’s impact by saying ‘Just a light scratch mate’ along with a smiley face and a thumbs up emoji, when asked for an update from a concerned fan.

From Raggett’s latest tweet, it suggests the defender will not be fit to face Burton at Fratton Park.

The former Norwich man will no doubt disagree, though, given his obvious commitment.

However, clarity will hopefully be provided this afternoon from Cowley’s press briefing,

Rasmus Nicolaisen, who replaced Raggett in the second half at the DW Stadium is on standby.

Meanwhile, James Bolton could also act as cover.
