And Kenny Jackett is confident he can ‘dovetail’ his options out wide to get the best out of them over the remainder of the campaign.

The Pompey boss is looking at Marcus Harness, Ryan Williams and Ronan Curtis as he three primary options down the flanks at present.

Curtis and Williams have possession of those shirts at present, as their side’s season has gathered pace.

Jackett sees an important role for the trio over the second half of the campaign.

He said: ‘Ryan’s done really well. Both him and Ronan have been strong for us. Marcus has as well.

‘They are three good wingers. Hopefully I can dovetail the three of them through the season. That would be great.

‘There was last year when we maybe just ran out of steam a bit with our two guys.

‘These three guys can hopefully see us through the second half of the season.’

Williams currently finds himself on a rich run of playing time down the right, with the EFL Trophy meeting with Northampton his only absence in the past 16 games.

Curtis has been preferred down the left, but Jackett views both the Australian international and Harness as options down the same flank.

He added: ‘There’s not been too many times where either Ryan or Marcus has played on the left, though I think they can both play on the left.

‘Ryan uses his left foot a lot in general play.

‘His game is very direct and I think he could do well on the left side.’
