The Blues tonight secured a 2-0 victory at Lincoln through goals from Ronan Curtis and John Marquis.

The result ensures Pompey have reached their highest placing of the season so far in the form of sixth spot – and are six points behind leaders Rotherham.

Lincoln possess an outstanding home record this term, yet were seen off by the revitalised Blues.

And Jackett is convinced a seventh straight win was fully justified.

He said: ‘We got the key first goal, it was a great strike from Ronan, and in the second half I thought we were the better side, dominated and were on top.

‘The second goal was needed and was coming, it took us a little while to get it but we deserved it on quite a strong second-half performance, my players played very well.

‘It was very difficult, the pitch was tricky to pass the ball on and you could seethat by the lack of final ball, clear-cut chances and opportunities to cross the ball, which were few and far between.

‘It made it the original scrappy game to an extent.

‘Having said that, Lincoln have a great record here, particularly of late, and a terrific atmosphere.

‘We came here on a Tuesday night and deserved to win, particularly in the second half.’
