But it won’t stop him scouring the market for new additions between now and the end of the transfer window as he plots a course towards the Championship.

So far, Spurs teenager Harvey White represents the only fresh face within the Blues camp.

Meanwhile, Charlie Daniels’ impending arrival will double that figure, enhancing the manager’s resources further for the challenge ahead.

Heading into two key games against Hull and Lincoln respectively – the division’s current top two – Jackett believes he already boasts strength throughout his ranks.

That quality allowed Pompey to top the table heading into Christmas and stay in and around the automatic promotion spots despite an enforced break over over the festive period.

Jackett still has places left in his squad, though, following the loan departures of Reeco Hackett-Fairchild and Bryn Morris this month.

And he’s even willing to welcome more under-21s like White – players who don’t count towards the 22-man squad limit – if it means strength and depth is maintained at all times between now and the end of the season.

When asked if his current squad is better equipped this season for a promotion push, the manager said: ‘Well, see. Different things happen – two years ago we lost sort of two key players at that time and couldn’t quite react because of the window.

‘So different things can happen but I do think we’ve got good depth at the moment and we obviously want to try to add to that.

‘We’ve stated we do want a specialist left-back to compete with Lee Brown and then after that we still have two places for players over 21 and obviously unlimited places for players that are under 21.

‘We do want to go into the second half of the season and try to be as strong as possible with as much depth, because it’s very difficult to know what’s going to happen in a couple of months in terms of availability.’
