Meanwhile, Pompey in the Community are recruiting players to take part in their Junior Premier League programme, with trials due to be held in early June for the start of the new season after the summer holidays. Players from all age groups from under-8s to under-15s are being considered.

The Junior Premier League (JPL) aims to bridge the gap between academy and grassroots football, with sides playing in an organised league against other professional development clubs and regional development centres in Southampton, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Dorset and Sussex.

All age groups train twice a week on a Monday and Wednesday, under FA and UEFA qualified coaches, with games played on Saturdays.

There are also opportunities to represent Pompey in the Community at international tournaments during the season.

The JPL focuses on player development and embraces the academy EPPP concept and philosophy.

Games are played over four periods to allow maximum coaching input to promote a safe and friendly environment to aid player development.
