Mark Catlin's message to the Fratton faithful ahead of Portsmouth's FA Cup tie against Arsenal

And in his programme notes ahead of tonight's FA Cup fifth-round tie against Arsenal, Pompey’s chief executive believes the pressure is all on the Gunners to get a result.

They’re also in the final of the EFL Trophy at Wembley – as well as facing the Premier League heavyweights in a money-spinning clash at Fatton Park.

And Catlin stressed Pompey fans play a crucial part as the campaign reaches a crescendo.

He said: ‘I’ve heard a lot about some great iconic nights here at Fratton Park – such as that clash with AC Milan in the UEFA Cup – and I think that this game has the potential to join that list.

‘Our visitors have a team full of superstars, a fantastic FA Cup pedigree, and you can’t help but admire them as a club, both on and off the pitch.

From our point of view, however, we’re treating it the same as we would any other match, despite the calibre of of opposition.

‘Although league success is our number one goal, the aim is still to secure victory and not just make up the numbers. Arsenal are one of the biggest and most successful Premier League sides and so the pressure is firmly on their shoulders.

‘We can relish the occasion as a ‘free hit’, while still expecting the usual levels of commitments, passion and desire to won.

‘We have an excellent home record this season and the recent run of results was posted on social media recently – it was great to see all those ‘Ws’ and no ‘Ls’/

‘I have to say it doesn’t always feel like that I’m and still biting my fingernails during every game! When you get to this stage of the season and there’s so much to play for, it’s always going to be tense. Let’s make sure as a group – and you are all as important as any player that pulls on a blue shirt – we keep up this momentum that we’ve been building.’
