The new boss will be tempted to make a couple of changes because of the above.
But is now the right time to freshen things up?
Saying that, is there ever a good time when those you have called on have so far served you well?
We wait to see what Cowley decides.
In the meantime, though, here’s how we think the Blues will line up at Gresty Road this evening and why...
1. Goalkeeper - Craig MacGillivray
Will no doubt be disappointed he let in Joe Powell's 30-yard+ free kick for Burton's winner on Saturday, so will be determined to keep a clean sheet on visit to Gresty Road. Has enjoyed only one shutout in the Blues' past 11 league games. Photo: JPIMedia
2. Right-back - Callum Johnson
Was replaced by James Bolton during the second half of the Burton defeat. That substitution will have been to get fresh legs in the pitch as the Blues chased the game. Will be back in the team this evening, but no doubt Danny Cowley would love to see him help out his forwards more with his terrific crossing ability. Photo: JPIMedia
3. Centre-back - Jack Whatmough
Has been defensively sound as ever in recent games. There's absolutely no reason to take Jack out of the team - simple. Photo: JPIMedia
4. Centre-back - Sean Raggett
There might be a temptation to hand Sean Raggett a rest, with the rugged defender substituted against Burton following the head injury picked up against Wigan. His replacement on Saturday, Rasmus Nicolaisen, has certainly impressed the Cowleys with his ability on the ball. However, you suspect Raggett will get the nod once again to start. Photo: JPIMedia
