Kenny Jackett is confident his Pompey squad will remain together to complete the 2019-20 season – should it receive the green light to resume.

The Premier League and Football League have pencilled in June for the campaign to continue, albeit that outcome is still entirely reliant on the level of the coronavirus situation.

With loan deals scheduled to end in May and player contracts finishing on June 30, there remains the possibility that some players may depart their respective clubs before the season can be concluded.

At Pompey, four players are presently on loan, while Christian Burgess and Brett Pitman are among the eight whose contracts are nearing expiry.

And, from speaking to those involved, Jackett believes none will depart Fratton Park until the fixtures have been completed and promotion aspirations have been settled.

The Blues boss said: ‘We obviously do like Christian, but there haven’t been any further talks and his focus will be making sure he is fit, available and, if we get this season going again, completing it successfully.

‘But I didn't see any of our players not being available for this season should we reconvene.

‘I don’t see anybody not playing, I think everybody will be in a position where they will want to complete the season – and Christian’s in that.

‘With our out-of-contract boys, it is hard for anybody to tell what the future looks like, I don’t think any individual club can necessarily plan that.

‘But, from our point of view, we do know our loan players and out-of-contract players would be committed to finishing this season and doing everything they can to help Pompey get promoted.

‘There's not a lot of information I can give them unfortunately because we just don’t know what the landscape looks like coming out of the other side.

‘I don’t think there's anybody here – whether they are out of contract or loans – that won’t want to stay here and complete the season.’

Pompey’s loanees are Steve Seddon, Ross McCrorie, Cameron McGeehan and Sean Raggett.

As for those out of contract from June 30, they are Burgess, Pitman, Lee Brown, Oli Hawkins, Adam May, Brandon Haunstrup, Luke McGee and Matt Casey.

Jackett added: ‘I do think the squad we have now, should this season reconvene, will be the same squad.

‘They are committed to the club and I don’t think there’s going to be anybody in the situation that although their contract may be up or they are here on loan they will want to go.

‘I have confidence everybody will want to complete the season should we get the green light.’
