No decision has been reached on what that expected return to action will look like for Kenny Jackett nad his side.

However, the most likely outcome will see the season curtailed, with the Blues entering the play-offs alongside Oxford, Fleetwood and Wycombe to determine who joins Coventry and Rotherham in the Championship next season.

That means on-loan Barnsley midfielder McGeehan could have three further games to stamp his authority on Pompey’s promotion push.

He’s yet to reach the level expected of him since in January arrival, despite 15 appearances and two goals.

But The News’ chief sports writer, Neil Allen, believes there's still time for the former Northern Ireland under-21 international to shine brighter in a Blues shirt.

And he’s willing McGeehan on to do so, given the 25-year-old’s sterling work in the community as a volunteer during the coronavirus.

Speaking in the latest episode of Pompey Talk, Allen said: ‘We don't know how many games were going to see, but perhaps it's maybe time for Cameron McGeehan to come to the fore.

‘He'll definitely be a starter for Pompey.

‘We know he's a very talented player, especially at this level.

‘The last time he was at this level he was regularly in the (League One) team of the year and won promotion with Barnsley.

‘He's been a bit disappointing for me. He hasn't been poor, he just been a bit average

‘However, perhaps he might come to the fore now.

‘I also think we ought to mention the excellent work he's putting into the community at the minute with the Pompey Hive.

'And by all accounts he regularly volunteers for everything put forward by Christian Burgess and the players' group and wants to get involved in the community and keep himself busy.

‘I think, for a loan player, that is an absolutely outstanding attitude because he might not even be here in a couple of month's time and be back at Barnsley.

‘But what a stunning attitude that is and clearly he has the community at heart.

‘He's interested in helping the club as well and hopefully we can see the real him when the season does restart because there's so much more to come from him.

‘We've been waiting but he’s not quite stepped up yet.

‘But it's there, we know it's there, and perhaps he can come through.’
