Peterborough tweet appreciation for 'touch of class' shown by Portsmouth trio and travelling Fratton faithful

A pre-match minute's applause was held for groundsman Mr Whitney, 21, who died in a crash involving a lorry in February and scout Stuart Gray, who recently died of cancer.

The Posh also thanked those among the travelling Fratton faithful who offered their condolences to the bereaved family members in attendance.

Members of the Whitney family were in present on the pitch to witness the moving tribute.

And as they made their way off to take their seats in the stand, they were met by the sympathetic Blues trio who went out of their way to offer their condolences.

They were acts of compassion that were appreciated by the Whitney family and Peterborough United, who thanked the players and supporters for their actions.

A tweet from the Posh’s official Twitter page read: ‘A touch of class from @JohnMarquis09, @Ben8Close, @RonanCurtis1 and the @Pompey supporters who offered their condolences to the family of Will Whitney on Saturday.’

Pompey themselves then tweeted: ‘Everyone at the club would like to send their thoughts and condolences to Will's friends and family’.

The Blues lost the game 2-0 following goals from Dan Butler and Ivan Toney.
