Portsmouth chairman Michael Eisner's reaction after promotion bid falls short for successive seasons

The Blues suffered semi-final defeat for successive seasons after losing to Oxford United on penalties, following a 2-2 draw over the two legs.

Kenny Jackett's side’s promotion push fell short at the exact same stage last campaign, losing 1-0 to Sunderland.

It means Pompey are now preparing for a fourth consecutive campaign in the third tier, despite promotion firmly being the ambition at the start of both seasons.

What’s more, it’s left fans frustrated their side continues to languish in League One, with contingents questioning Jackett’s position as manager.

Eisner says he's feeling as ‘depressed’ as much as every member of the Fratton faithful.

But he’s pleaded for supporters to continue backing their side – with Championship football still the ambition.

Eisner wrote on Twitter: ‘I am as depressed and upset as all our fans, but today’s disappointment will in the future be remembered as a really bad point in time. We move on; keep supporting @Pompey towards promotion and excellence. #PUP.’
