The Blues, meanwhile, are also looking to extend their current agreement with the University of Portsmouth, who have been the club’s main sponsorship partner for the past three seasons.

Both contracts are due to expire at the end of the current season, with separate three-year deals struck back in 2018.

They’re partnerships which Pompey believe represent ‘a good fit’ – and alliances chief executive Mark Catlin is keen to continue into the future.

The CEO told the club’s website: ‘It (the Nike contract) does run out at the end of this season but we are all but done on hopefully agreeing a new deal with them and have no intention of going elsewhere.

‘We're really happy with Nike, it feels like a good fit.

‘You know, themselves and the University (of Portsmouth), the three of us as a partnership moving forward, it just feels really good, and something we regard – both in terms of the university and Nike – we're going to be looking to extend if possible.

‘Don't change what isn't broken and they've been very good to us through the pandemic as well.

‘It (Nike) is a global brand, very highly respected – as is the university – so in both instances as key partners of the club we wouldn't be looking to change.

‘Now, negotiations-wise, maybe that won't be possible to proceed with both or one of them - nothing is signed at the moment - but that is what we are working towards.’
