Portsmouth consistency in ticket pricing for Barnsley FA Cup tie - Mark Catlin
Mark Catlin has said Pompey have been consistent in their ticket pricing for Saturday’s FA Cup fixture against Barnsley.
The Blues host the Championship outfit in the fourth round of the competition following their 2-1 win away at Fleetwood in their previous outing.
Pompey are charging £24 for an adult home ticket, while senior and junior fan match entry will cost £18 and £7 respectively.
Those prices replicate standard fees paid for league games at Fratton Park this season.
However, it’s led to some fans questioning the cost of watching their team play a struggling Championship side in a competition that is now no longer deemed a priority by certain clubs.
In his latest Q&A on the club’s Youtube channel, chief executive Catlin was asked how the Blues came to their ticket pricing strategy for the game against the Tykes.
An in response, he insisted Pompey had simply adopted the same approach they always have for these type of matches against Championship sides.
Catlin said: ‘Well, the decision process is consistency.
‘Last year we played QPR - a Championship team in the same round, I believe, and charged normal match-day league pricing.
‘If we get through and got Leeds in the next round we wouldn't go "oh, it's Leeds, we're going to charge double”.
‘So we've got to be consistent with the league and historically how we've done it.
‘And whether it's Barnsley, QPR, Leeds or Nottingham Forest, or whoever the team may be, in the FA Cup, in the fourth round, playing a team in the Championship, the consistent thing for us is that we deem that to be a League One-typical fixture in regards to the pricing.’
Pompey tonight play host to League Two Scunthorpe in the quarter-final of the EFL Trophy.
Entry is £10 for adults, £5 for seniors, £5 for young persons, £5 for wheelchair/ambulant, and £2 for junior supporters.
