David Wheeler will be out of action for ‘at least a week’ after picking up an ankle injury in Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Gillingham.

The on-loan QPR winger picked up the knock during the second half of Saturday’s League One game, after being introduced as a half-time substitute.

It means he misses tomorrow night’s Checkatrade Trophy fixture at Crawley and the forthcoming league game at AFC Wimbledon.

The former Exeter man was an option being considered by manager Kenny Jackett for both games, with Ronan Curtis away on international duty with the Republic of Ireland.

Wheeler has made seven appearances since arriving from Loftus Road in the summer.

Only two have those have been starts – against Wimbledon (Carabao Cup) and Gillingham (Checkatrade Trophy).

But manager Kenny Jackett is disappointed his injury has arrived at this time.

He said: 'Dave Wheeler had an ankle injury after a quite heavy challenge in the second half when he came on (against Gillingham).

‘It's a shame because he made a really good impression in that period and it would have been great if he'd have built on that.

'He certainly won't be fit this week and we'll see over the next week whether he'll get better.

'It does look like it will be at least a week.’
