Portsmouth midfield saluted after Coventry performance

Have your say

Kenny Jackett hailed Tom Naylor’s Pompey bite following his man-of-the-match display at Coventry.

The Blues increased their lead at the top of League One to three points following last night’s 1-0 triumph.

Ronan Curtis grabbed the decider during first-half stoppage-time at the Ricoh Arena, although it took a dogged showing after the break to ensure the success.

Naylor was at the heart of the battling Blues, digging in and breaking up play, despite carrying a yellow card from the first half.

And Jackett was delighted with the combative performer who continues to be a pivotal presence.

Pompey’s boss said: ‘Tom has been a really consistent player for us and a consistent person.

‘He was booked in the first half but seemed to play the ball. It looked 50/50.

‘We have to accept the referee’s decision, so you must manage yourself and get your timing exactly right from then on – and he did.

‘He’s a very reliable lad, has good experience and I think he will do well for the club.

‘At times last season we wanted some physical presence alongside Ben Close.

‘That’s where it was needed and you can see in terms of our midfield that has been brought in now.

‘As a manager, I have always liked Tom, I’m pleased he’s come to the club, we have done well to get him – and has excelled so far.’
