The Blues are in a race against time to ensure their first-choice centre-halves will be available for next week’s clash against Oxford United.

Although both want to be involved, their situations are making it more complicated.

Burgess has emerged as a target for Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise next season and they may not want him to risk injury before his move is finalised.

Raggett is out of contract with Norwich this summer, but the Canaries hold a year’s option on the man whose form has grown throughout the season.

The Premier League club could conceivably use that as leverage in agreeing a permanent deal before giving the green light for the 26-year-old to play.

Pompey also have six others out of contract and need to decide who’ll be handed short-term deals ahead of tonight’s deadline, as well as who’ll be offered a new deal for next season.
