Joe Gallen lauded the progress Pompey’s players are making after picking up a draw at Brentford.

The Blues assistant highlighted the Bees as the ideal opposition to step up their preparations to face Oxford United on July 3, after today’s 1-1 draw.

Gallen feels the depth the Championship promotion chasers possess meant they could offer a stiff test of the credentials of Kenny Jackett’s side, despite the fact they were in action with the Championship returning yesterday.

He said: ‘I’ve been coming here over the years with clubs and sometimes getting a hiding.

‘This is a very progressive club with basically two teams of Championship players.

‘They played yesterday and won - and they put out a very strong side today.

‘We can be very pleased with how we performed and played.

‘This is a tough place to come and we played very well.’
