Portsmouth skipper Tom Naylor pays tribute to travelling Fratton faithful

Naylor tweeted: ‘Top performance again from the boys in tough conditions, thanks to the blue army for there (sic) support. We keep going!’

The Blues’ trip to the The Wirral represented their sixth on the road since the turn of the year, with another pencilled on for Tuesday night when Pompey head to Birmingham to face Coventry in League One.

League games at Gillingham (1,180), Bolton (1,846) and Lincoln (1154) saw Blues fans out in force as they bid to roar their side to promotion.

The FA Cup third-round trip to Fleetwood attracted 525 away supporters, while the midweek trip to Walsall in the much-maligned EFL Trophy saw 226 supporters travel to cheer on a Pompey side vastly different from the team that faced the Cod Army.

To date, the 5,083 fans who made the trip to MK Dons in December represent the Blues’ biggest away gate of the current campaign.

For Tuesday night’s trip to St Andrew’s, Coventry have lowered ticket prices in a bid to generate a better atmosphere for the visit of Pompey.
