Portsmouth transfer news: Deal imminent, Ex-Pompey player talks up potential arrival

It took a little while for Portsmouth to get going this season, but since they hit their stride, they have been borderline unstoppable in League One.

Kenny Jackett’s men are currently second in the table, and could go top if they beat leaders Hull City on Saturday.

A win is hardly out of the question either – Pompey picked up an impressive 2-0 win against the Tigers just over a month ago.

And three points at Fratton Park could be made even sweeter if a deal can also be wrapped up for Charlie Daniels this weekend.

The News understand that the veteran full-back is in the process of finalising his switch to the south coast, and should everything go to plan, an announcement could be made in the near future.

Former Portsmouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has thrown his support behind a potential deal too.

The stopper played alongside Daniels at Bournemouth, and he believes that he has more than enough quality to be an asset for the Blues.

He told The News: “I think he’ll be a great signing for Pompey and hopefully get them promoted.

“Charlie’s a great professional, a leader, he does everything right on a daily basis and is a really, really good person to have in any dressing room.

“We spoke a few days ago. I told him Kenny Jackett is a good guy and that he’ll love it down there.”

The stats bode well for Daniels too.

According to Wyscout, the defender has averaged a dribble success rate of 70.7% this season – 10.4% higher than Cam Pring’s during his time at Fratton Park.

The ex-Bournemouth man has also averaged a higher ratio of assists per 90 minutes than the Bristol City man this term, and even has a marginally higher total action completion rate.

Daniels may be 34, but he was a Premier League player as recently as last year, and with 219 League One appearances to his name already over the course of his career, his quality and vast experience of the division could prove to be useful additions for Pompey.
