Portsmouth winger denies diving against Rochdale

Jamal Lowe has steadfastly denied he dived against Rochdale.

The winger collected a yellow card during Pompey’s 1-0 FA Cup second-round victory at Spotland yesterday.

On the stroke of half-time, Lowe went to ground in the hosts’ penalty area after spinning his way past Matt Done.

But the referee didn’t award a spot-kick and instead handed the former Hampton & Richmond talent a booking for simulation.

Lowe, however, has insisted he didn’t try to unlawfully win the Blues a penalty as he didn’t appeal or stay down afterwards.

The 24-year-old revealed he tried to get out of the way of the tackle.

He wrote on Twitter: ‘Into the hat for the 3rd round! Never been a dive (r), didn’t appeal didn’t stay down just tried to get out the way of the tackle but yolo! Shoutout the travelling fans.’

Lowe was replaced in the 76th minute by Andre Green against Keith Hill’s side.

It proved an inspired substitution from boss Kenny Jackett, with the Aston Villa’s 90th-minute deflected shot firing Pompey into tonight’s third-round draw.
