Brian Priske is the boss of FC Midtjylland – and a former Pompey right-back.

He was a Danish international when he arrived at Fratton Park from Genk in the summer of 2005, with Alain Perrin at Pompey’s helm.

That 2005-06 campaign would prove to be his first and last in England, making 33 appearances for the Blues.

However, Priske made a crucial contribution during the Great Escape and featured in the 2-1 success at Wigan in April 2006 which sealed Premier League survival.

He had originally been dropped by new boss Harry Redknapp following a 5-0 defeat at Birmingham City in January 2006.

Instead, Andy Griffin was preferred at right-back – until his mistake gifted Milan Baros a winner for Aston Villa.

That opened the door for Priske’s return to the side against Manchester City in March 2006, a fixture which would kick off the Great Escape.

The Dane retained his place for the remainder of the season, performing in that memorable run which concluded with safety with a match to spare.

However, Priske departed for Club Brugge in August 2006.

His right-back replacement was Glen Johnson, initially on loan from Chelsea, who proved to be an outstanding signing.

Priske’s fellow Dane, Thomas Thogersen, appeared for three seasons after arriving from Brondby in August 1998 for a £100,000 fee.

The midfielder and occasional right-back featured 115 times for the Blues, scoring eight times.

Memorably, he netted in three straight matches in October 2000 – Sheffield Wednesday, Crewe and Crystal Palace – with Pompey winning all three fixtures.

In October 1999, he scored twice against Walsall during a 5-1 win, with Alan McLoughlin (two) and Lee Bradbury also among the scorers.

There was actually a loan spell at Walsall a few years later, before Thogersen left Fratton Park for Copenhagen-based club Frem in 2002.

Denmark international Bjorn Kristensen joined Pompey in a £100,000 deal from Newcastle in March 1993 and went on to make 90 appearances and score five times.

Capped 20 times by his country, the midfielder was sent off on his Blues debut, earning two yellow cards in a 1-0 victory over Charlton.

He returned to Denmark in the summer of 1995 with AaB.

Finally, Tommy Christensen, who had one Denmark cap to his name, featured for Pompey in the 1985-86 campaign.

The striker, who arrived from Leicester, scored twice in four appearances for Alan Ball’s men.

All of his outings came in December 1985, with his goals registered against Sunderland and Hull in Division Two.

Christensen would move back to Denmark to represent Brondby.

Now Pompey have another Dane in Rasmus Nicolaisen – and the Fratton faithful will watch his progress with interest.
