The midfielder is sought after following his release from Fratton Park.

May wasn't handed a new deal by Blues manager Kenny Jackett upon the expiry of his two-year contract.

The Fratton Park academy graduate made 30 appearances for the club in total.

However, there's plenty of interest in May now he's a free agent.

That remains the case, although Bristol Rovers and Forest Green are also admirers.

They've already made four signings – including former Gillingham captain Max Ehmer and ex-Sunderland defender Jack Baldwin – while Hawks striker Jonah Ayunga is poised to move to the Memorial Stadium.

Forest Green have also been monitoring May as they aim to finally escape the shackles of the fourth tier.

The possibility to reunite with Gary Waddock, who was recently appointed assistant boss at Cambridge, could also tempt May.

Waddock handed the 22-year-old his Pompey debut against Bury in April 2015, as well as taking him on loan while manager of Aldershot during the first half of the 2018-19 season.

Meanwhile, Mansfield director of football David Sharpe has previously had a glowing reference from ex-Pompey manager Paul Cook on May.

And Crawley assistant head coach Lee Bradbury has also been a long-time admirer.

May’s looking to get his career back on track after a frustrating campaign.

He joined Swindon on a season-long loan last summer but found opportunities difficult to come by.

May featured 13 times during the Robins’ League Two title charge, scoring one goal, before returning to Pompey in January.

He was then loaned to National League side Boreham Wood the following month and netted once in two appearances before the coronavirus crisis curtailed the season.
