The League One clash has been postponed because of a frozen Gresty Road pitch.

A local referee inspected the surface on Friday morning and deemed it unsafe, with temperatures expected to fall even lower this evening.

The mercury is set to drop to -4C in Cheshire overnight and will remain below zero at the scheduled kick-off time of 3pm.

It's frustration for Pompey, with a third game this season being cancelled because of the weather.

The Blues’ visit to Accrington on January 2 was scrapped due to a frozen pitch at the Wham Stadium.

Meanwhile, last month’s visit to Charlton was called off just an hour before kick-off.

Referee Bobby Madley deemed the heavy surface unplayable after overnight rain in London.

The clash was rearranged for the following Tuesday, with Pompey delivering a 3-1 win at The Valley.

A new date for the Crewe fixture will be announced in due course.

Pompey boss Kenny Jackett had been braced for the game to be postponed when conducting his pre-match press duties on Thursday.

He admitted the Blues will have to ‘think on their feet’ to rearrange the clash and didn't rule out delaying kick-off by 24 hours.

However, it’s understood that is unlikely to happen.
