This summer is likely to be no different, although the Blues are yet to know whether they’ll be playing in the Championship or League One next term.
Previous players linked with move to and away from Fratton Park could again crop up.
We’ve taken a look at which players they could be...
1. Brett Pitman - Plymouth and Swindon
The striker will depart Pompey at the end of his contract but doesn't plan on retiring just yet. Both Plymouth and Swindon have been promoted to League One and could look to swoop for Pitman on a free. Photo: Joe Pepler
2. George Tanner - Manchester United
According to the Manchester Evening News, Pompey were keeping tabs on the right-back in January after an impressive loan at Morecambe. He joined Salford City before being released by the Premier League heavyweights earlier this week. Photo: Pete Norton
3. Craig MacGillivray - Birmingham and Huddersfield
It doesn't look like Rangers will be moving for the keeper after signing fellow Scot Jon McLaughlin. The Scottish Sun also reported Birmingham and Huddersfield were keen on MacGillivray. Lee Camp is out of contract at the end of the season at Brum. Photo: Graham Hunt
4. Manny Monthe - Tranmere
Pompey were interested in the centre-back during the January transfer window but felt Tranmere's asking price was too high. However, Rovers could well look to sell assets after their relegation from League Two to raise cash. Photo: Clive Brunskill
