That's the opinion of pundit Sam Parkins, speaking on highlights programme EFL on Quest.

Marquis was given his marching orders in the second half of the Blues' 2-1 defeat of Shrewsbury – having scored his 16th goal of the season before the interval.

After a challenge on the Shrews' Harry Chapman, the striker was sent off for serious foul play by the referee.

However, Parkin can't see that happening – even despite thinking Marquis shouldn’t have been dismissed.

‘I can understand why the referee has given it,’ said Parkin.

‘But, for me, it is yellow card at worst. Again, it was split opinion and it's very much a modern-day sending off.

‘Danny Cowley is right to appeal it but he won't be successful – that's where we are.’

As things stand, Marquis will serve a three-match suspension and miss games against Rochdale, Wigan and Burton.
