It meant Kenny Jackett’s men dropped to sixth in the table, although they’ll go third again if they beat Fleetwood at PO4 on Tuesday.

It’s been Pompey’s away form away to the the sides who’re also in the hunt to go up that’s been their downfall this term.

The Blues still have to go to Oxford, Ipswich and Rotherham in their final 10 games.

For that reason, Parkin feels a top-two finish might be out of the question for Jackett's men.

Speaking on EFL on Quest, the former Luton forward said: ‘Toney was magnificent again with an assist and a goal.

‘Peterborough went a little bit more direct today to take out that extra pass and it was a magnificent finish from Toney.

Portsmouth really missed Burgess, who was suspended. Whatmough came in and was taken off at half-time, there was a bit of a reshuffle.

‘Portsmouth have just stuttered away from home against those challenging sides and they’ve maybe given themselves too much to do.’
