Last week it was claimed the Blues – along with Barnsley, Peterborough, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, QPR and Charlton were all monitoring in the 21-year-old.

Lee Bowyer’s Addicks firmed up their interest with an offer ahead of Friday’s EFL transfer window.

However, if was rejected by Boreham Wood, who insisted it came nowhere near their valuation of the player.

That led chairman Danny Hunter to tell would-be suitors to meet his asking price or move on – and Thomas ultimately remaining at the non-league side.

Now, in another development, it has been agreed to place the attacker on the transfer list with immediate effect – 10 weeks before the new transfer window opens.

Both manager Luke Garrard and Thomas were consulted, and all agreed this was the best course of action to rout out a potential move for a player who has ambitions of stepping up into the EFL.

Pompey were keen to add to their attacking ranks before the transfer window closed but failed to do so.

Since then, an injury to Ellis Harrison (hamstring) leaves Kenny Jackett short up top for the next 2-3 weeks, with John Marquis his only other senior front man.

A statement released by Boreham Wood chairman Hunter on Monday read: ‘The club has sat down with Sorba today and we’ve all aired things honestly and sensibly.

‘As such we’ve all agreed that we will put him on the transfer list with immediate effect. That way, we can then see if there is wider interest and take it from there.

‘There’s now 10 weeks before the window reopens and if any interested parties, firstly match our very reasonable valuation, then Sorba and his advisors can explore whether the interested club is for them.

‘I’ve spoken to the player personally in the exact same way that I’ve done over the last six seasons.

‘He’s a great lad and he knows we care, and he knows he’s still very much loved here.

‘That said both Luke and myself accept that he’s now keen to explore his options and we’ll do what we can to help him but we also need to ensure the club’s interests are served too.’

The statement continued: ‘I’ve asked my Chief Exec Charlie Hunter to write up our heads of terms for any interested clubs, and in this climate that will include a sensible staged payment arrangement, to help the player fulfil his EFL aspirations but it will also include a wide range of add-ons.

‘Thankfully with all parties’ blessing, this can now be done in an orderly and professional manner and we hope all parties are happy, as everyone needs to accept that our little club also has it’s own dreams and ambitions and just like Sorba, we also dream about playing in the EFL one day.’

Sorba scored five goals in 35 appearances for Boreham Wood.

Meanwhile, he is yet to get off the mark this season.

Pompey currently have Reeco Hackett-Fairchild on loan at Bromley.
