The defender, 18, appears he will have a part to play in Pompey’s League One promotion push for the upcoming season should a salary cap be implemented.

Mnoga, who signed his maiden professional deal in December, would be exempt from rules that will limit squads to 22 players who are above the age of 21.

With Ross McCrorie returning to Rangers following his loan spell, James Bolton is the only senior right-back option Kenny Jackett currently has available.

As things stand, Mnoga – who has made four first-team appearances in the EFL Trophy – will serve as back-up to the ex-Shrewsbury man.

Mikey Harris worked with the Southsea lad when he was a coach in the Blues’ Academy and feels he has a bright future ahead.

Harris said: ‘When I’ve seen him play this season, he’s always been steady and is another one on the production line.

‘The academy has consistently produced players for the club over the years and he is another one.

‘It’ll be interesting to see if he ends up as a full-back or a centre-back, but physically he has all of the attributes.

‘He’s very driven and a has good character so I’m sure that he has a bright future.’

Mnoga, who is an England under-18 international, came through the Pompey youth ranks as a centre-back.

While Harris feels Mnoga is still acclimatising to the role, he reckons the youngster is capable of doing so.

He added: ‘Haji played most of his development years as a centre-back but has all of the attributes to be a modern-day full-back - certainly from an out-of-possession perspective.

‘I think he’ll be the first to admit when he gets into the forward areas that he needs to do a little bit of work in terms of crossing and delivery.

But, to be far to Haji, he wouldn’t have been exposed to those situations much during his development years.

‘If he applies himself to the areas he needs to and demonstrates his strengths he undoubtedly has then I’m sure he will go on to have a good career.’
