The Sunderland, Charlton, Crewe and other League One aces whose contract situations Portsmouth may closely be watching

Plenty has been made about the Pompey players whose contracts expire at the end of the season.

In total, 11 members of the Blues’ squad, as things stand, will be rendered free agents on July 1.

They are Tom Naylor, Andy Cannon, Craig MacGillivray, Jack Whatmough, Ben Close, Ryan Williams, Haji Mnoga, Jordy Hiwula, Charlie Daniels, Duncan Turnbull and Bryn Morris.

Even though many have expressed their desire to stay at PO4, it’d be naive to think that rival clubs aren’t carefully watching the situation unravel.

Naylor, MacGillivray, Cannon, Whatmough and Williams have been regulars all season and will have their admirers.

But on the other hand, the Blues will also be keeping tabs on rivals players in the division whose contracts are nearing their conclusions.

The likes of MacGillivray, Naylor, Williams and Lee Brown were all recruited on free transfers in recent seasons and proved hits.

There are some big names who are out of contract at the season’s end in League One.

It would be fanciful to think the likes of Charlie Wyke, Luke O’Nien (both Sunderland) and Siriki Dembele (Peterborough) could be prised to Fratton Park. Players of that ilk will be off to established Championship teams if their respective clubs don’t get promoted.
