The wily Lee Brown prank against Wigan that has Portsmouth players and fans appreciating it's comedy gold

Simple but effective – no, not Lee Brown’s match-rating synopsis from Monday’s victory at Wigan.

Rather, the best way to describe the wily left-back’s antics during a small incident at the DW Stadium that has had many of the Fratton faithful chuckling with amusement.

Even team-mate Sean Raggett, who is currently in no position to laugh given the suspected broken cheekbone he suffered in the 1-0 victory over the Latics, saw the funny side of it.

Although, he did express his approval in the form of four rolling on the flour laughing emojis via his personal twitter account!

For those of you left wondering what all the fuss is about, then it relates to footage that has emerged from the game prior to Harvey White’s second-half introduction as a substitute.

Players from both sides are gathered near the touchline in front of the dugouts remonstrating with the fourth official following an earlier incident.

At the centre of it is Wigan right-back Tendayi Darikwa, who makes the schoolboy error of talking his eye of the ball.

And that move proves costly as Brown takes the opportunity to cheekily loft it back in his direction with pinpoint accuracy.

It forces the Zimbabwean to immediately source the culprit of the brazen act, with the Blues defender an obvious candidate given his position and direction the ball came from.

But experienced character Brown proves too quick and cunning for the incensed Latics player, looking over his shoulder with comedic affect as he too searches for the person who would deliver such a cheap shot!

We told you it was simple but effective!

The video also shows Ben Close seeing the funny side of the prank.

And it appears he and team-mate Raggett aren’t the only ones to take enjoyment from the stunt.

At the time of writing, the footage had more than 500,000 views on one particular Twitter account and more than 19,000 likes.

Pompey themselves have also recognised the comedy value in the incident, with their retweet gaining in excess of 640 likes.

Meanwhile, there has been plenty of comment from the Fratton faithful, too, who clearly love what they’ve just seen.

@leon_cll said: ‘Love the look over the shoulder too. Haha brilliant’.

While @beano438 commented: ‘Ben Close p*****g himself then joining in the “where did it come from?” Game.’

It’s already clear Brown is new head coach Danny Cowley’s first-choice left-back after he replaced Kenny Jackett last month.

If only he was more accurate with his shooting, though, with the defender scoring just once in his 104 appearances for the Blues!
