Thriving talisman Sean Raggett told he has to handle not being to taste of all Portsmouth fans

And Kenny Jackett has saluted the no-nonsense defender’s impact in his side's rise into promotion contention.

Raggett has started the past 13 games for his side, with the 26-year-old now showing his best form as he benefits from building momentum.

The Norwich loanee has also been building on his status as a Blues talisman, with it now 19 wins and just three defeats from the 27 appearances he's made this term.

Raggett's rugged style of play has not been to everyone’s taste, however, but Jackett believes he's strong enough to brush off any criticism.

And the Pompey has no doubt what an important component the former non-league man has become in his starting XI

Jackett said: ‘I think there’s an analysis of all of us if you like. That’s good and okay.

‘As well as that you need to have some self-confidence and determination to be able to do well.

‘However long you’re in it you’re going to receive some criticism. That’s part of it.

‘If there wasn’t any criticism you wouldn’t be at a level you want to be at. One goes with the other.

‘As a player myself, coach and manager, you can’t be sensitive to criticism. You’re in the wrong industry. You need to get another job.

‘Most players one way or the other work that out.

‘It’s great to be loved and popular but if you’re at a place for any length of time you’ll get some criticism. You have to be resilient enough.

‘Mentally, Sean is resilient enough, focussed on his own professionalism which is great. After that, being a good cog in the wheel, team man and team-mate to the other players is important.’

Jackett has no doubt Raggett is definitely benefitting from the extended run of games he’s been given as he nails down a partnership with Christian Burgess.

The Pompey boss feels it's a similar story with James Bolton and the evidence certainly suggests so, with three league clean sheets on the bounce and seven goals conceded in the past nine games.

Jackett added: ‘Sean’s come through and so’s James Bolton.

'Both of them have had niggle injuries in the first part of the season.

‘Then they wanted and needed that run to get to their best form and gain confidence, which every player wants.

‘The player would want a run and some backing definitely.

‘Then from the manger you want to do that but they have to show some form to give them that.

‘Hopefully it continues. He’s built into the season

‘Raggett and Burgess have been our best combination and the one I’ve picked the most.’
