During the latter stages of the summer transfer window, it was claimed the Blues were one of several clubs – along with the likes of Barnsley, Peterborough, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, QPR and Charlton were all monitoring the Boreham Wood man.

Charlton lodged a bid for Thomas, which he was informed about, but it failed to meet the National League club’s valuation.

Just days after the window shut, however, Wood chairman Danny Hunter revealed that the 21-year-old had been placed on the club’s transfer list after both parties ‘aired things honestly and sensibly’.

Thomas has scored two goals in seven appearances for Boreham Wood this season, after bagging five times in 35 outings last term.

Speaking to the South London Press, Thomas insisted he will continue to give his all for Luke Garrard’s side and wants to help them reach the Football League.

But he failed to rule out a departure from the non-league side when the January transfer window opens.

He said: ‘I have a relationship with the gaffer, with the chairman and they did let me know. We had a little conversation but like I said, I’m a Boreham Wood player until I’m told that I’m not. I’ll put 100 percent into the games for the team and get the boys to where they should be – in the football league. That’s our aspirations for this year. We’re still on course. Let’s see what happens.

‘I’ve been at Boreham Wood for six years. I did my college there. I’ve done a lot of growing. I’ve been with the gaffer for so many years now. In an ideal world I’d love to (get to the Football League) with Boreham Wood.

‘Whatever the future does hold for me, for the club. I want to do it with Boreham Wood, that’s what I want to do. But no one knows what the future holds, we’ll have to see what happens.

‘I had a conversation with the gaffer, I had a conversation with the chairman. I’m happy where I am at the moment. I’m happy where I am with my football. I love my teammates.

‘I’ll do everything I can to put 100 percent into every game I play for the club and hopefully we’ll get promotion this year.

‘I’m here for the team. I’m literally playing week in, week out and putting in 100 percent for the team. Whatever happens on the outside, that’s a conversation I have to have with the gaffer and the chairman. Other than that, my head is still on my football.

‘I’m a Boreham Wood player and I’ll always be a Boreham Wood player until I’m told not to. Like I said, I’ll put 100 percent into the pitch, play for my team and who knows what can happen in the future.’

Thomas is under contract at Boreham Wood until the summer of 2022.
