The Blues have been desperate to cast their eye over the American under match conditions following his arrival earlier this month.

The reserves were due to host Villa last Tuesday night, giving them the chance to further observe the former University of Notre Dame stopper at close quarters.

That game fell foul of the weather, though, with host club Bognor’s Nyewood Lane pitch waterlogged.

However, the match will take place tonight – with the home of the Rocks again selected to stage the fixture.

Pompey are keen to add to their goalkeeping ranks.

And 21-year-old Turnbull is one they are certainly keeping an eye on, with his initial two-day trial now extended.

Manager Kenny Jackett said: ‘He (Turnbull) is going to play tonight at Bognor against Aston Villa, 7pm kick off.

‘That’s the plan.

‘We had to hastily rearrange that game so hopefully it’s okay.

‘Anyway, he’s still been training with us with a decision pending.’
