Portsmouth striker Brett Pitman: I've never had it this good

The Pompey striker feels the finishing quality he's shown in his time at Fratton Park is unsurpassed in his career.

Pitman is out to shoot down Gillingham, after last weekend bringing up his 50th appearance since arriving from Ipswich last year.

The 30-year-old has scored an outstanding 29 goals in that time, underlining his status as a predatory finisher.

It's a return the Jersey man is proud of, but he's confident there are plenty more Blues goals on the horizon for him.

Pitman has been on some phenomenal goal runs in his career.

He bagged eight goals in as many appearances for Bristol City in the 2011-12 Championship season.

The campaign before he smashed in nine goals in 10 outings for Bournemouth in League One.

And the Pompey skipper bettered a goal a game when firing in nine League One efforts in just eight games for the Cherries in 2012-13.

But Pitman hasn't matched the return over an extended period he's delivered at Pompey - with Mick Quinn and Duggie Reid the only players to score more in their first 50 games in the club's post-war history.

Pitman said: '˜A return of 29 in 50 for a forward is obviously not bad. I'll take it!

'˜Hopefully, there's a few more still to come.

'˜I think it has to be the best run of my career.

'˜I've had spells of goals but not over such a long period.

'˜At Bournemouth I had a run of 10 in nine at one stage.

'˜That's over a much shorter period, though.

'˜I would expect 29 in 50 is a better ratio than at any other point in my career.'
