The Rams picked up a confidence-boosting point on their travels over the weekend when they returned home from Aylesbury United with a 1-1 draw.

The result also came at the end of a tumultuous week at Love Lane, when manager John Robson was sacked on the Monday but re-instated on the Thursday evening.

An own goal put the Rams level, after they went behind at Aylesbury United.

And Alfy Whittingham could have won it for Petersfield deep into injury-time when he shot wide with the goal at his mercy.

Picking up a result from any game has looked a tough ask for Petersfield during the current campaign.

But the fact they can put together four results in a row by avoiding defeat tonight shows how far the team has come in recent weeks.

‘Gary Lines got the confidence building in the players during his spell in charge as manager and John Robson has started to build on that further,’ said chairman Graeme Moir.

‘The reaction from the players last week when John met them after agreeing to come back to the club showed how much they like him and are starting to buy into his style of playing the game.

‘We are starting to look like a side who are not struggling at the bottom of the table.

‘By that I mean we have gone from getting beaten too easily at times to becoming a side which is getting more and more difficult to beat.

‘This is giving us a better chance of getting results from games. We are not finding ourselves out of matches due to conceding too many goals.

‘The next step for us is to stop conceding at all and to try to get our noses in front in a game or two first.

‘I am sure we will be a different proposition for teams when we go in front first and that will help to boost our confidence further if we go in front regularly and then go on to pick up more wins as a result.’

Uxbridge hammered the Rams 4-1 in the reverse fixture which was played in August.

They currently sit 18th in the division one central table – three places above Petersfield.
