Rams boss hoping for home comforts

The Rams boss is concerned the goals have dried up for his side in two lengthy away trips in Southern League division one central.

His players drew a blank in the visits to Aylesbury and St Ives Town last week and he is at a loss to explain it.

However, he is hoping the return to familiar surroundings – starting with tonight’s game at Love Lane against Chalfont St Peter (7.45pm) – will spark a revival in the Rams’ goalscoring fortunes.

‘I really can’t explain why we are not scoring any goals at the moment,’ said the Petersfield boss.

‘There is no stand-out reason for this being the case.

‘The worrying factor in the last two away games is we didn’t look like scoring at times – you just couldn’t see where a goal was coming from.

‘It wasn’t as though we were missing many players – only Andy Todd has been out of the side in recent weeks.

‘The chances we had in the two games didn’t really trouble the opposition goalkeeper.

‘We could argue we didn’t get the refereeing decisions we should have done – Oliver Bailey should have been given two penalties against St Ives, for example.

‘But we have a run of home games coming up and hopefully the familiar surroundings of Love Lane, where we have performed well recently, will spark something in the players to get them scoring again.’

The visit of Chalfont St Peter is the first of three home matches in six days for Petersfield.

They host Bedford Town on Saturday and Beaconsfield SYCOB next Tuesday night.

Chalfont, who beat the Rams 2-1 in September, led the table at one stage but their promotion challenge has fallen away.
