The Rams have yet to play the Hertfordshire side this season, and it will be another mystery adventure to add to the list of Southern League experiences the club has had since stepping up to division one central last summer.

Manager Ian Saunders admitted he knows very little about tonight’s visitors.

Although they look to have a strong squad on paper, with the likes of Ben Bowditch – who was on Tottenham Hotspur’s books as a youngster and who also played for England at youth level – among the players they can call on.

‘They are just above us in the table and they have had a similar season to us results-wise so far,’ said Saunders.

‘We don’t know much about them but that is not something we are concerned about.

‘After two defeats last week we need to concentrate on what we are doing and get back on our game again if we are going to try to take the three points.

‘The last two matches have been disappointing but we need to keep our focus on our primary target for the season – that is to reach 40 points and make sure we are still playing at this level next season.’

Lewis Hyde is likely to sit this game out due to a hamstring problem, but Petersfield are set to welcome Sean Wain and Gary Norgate back into the match-day squad.

Rams officials will be praying that the weather is kind to them as they look to get the first game played at Love Lane since Saturday, December 19.

The almost constant wet weather conditions have meant no action has been possible on the pitch since before the festive season, and while the club is confident tonight’s game will go ahead, it will not take much rain to cause a problem.

Rams chairman Graeme Moir added: ‘We desperately need to get playing football at home again as soon as possible.

‘We are keeping our fingers crossed for tonight – I just hope that the rain predicted for today doesn’t turn out to be too heavy as that might put things in doubt.’
