He passed away last night at QA Hospital, aged 98.

Hibberd was the last link between Hawks and Waterlooville FC, where he was a director for many years prior to the club’s amalgamation with Havant Town in 1998.

He had previously played for many years for Waterlooville as well.

‘Maurie was a real gentleman,’ said Hawks director Trevor Brock.

‘He spent a lifetime in football and was a pivotal part of the old Waterlooville football club.

‘Maurie continued to follow the new Havant & Waterlooville club following its amalgamation.

‘He was a regular in the club’s 21 seasons, right up to lockdown.

‘He will be sorely missed by everyone at the club.’

A minute’s silence was held in his memory prior tonight’s friendly between Gosport Borough and Hawks at Privett Park.
