Paul Cook admitted relief after Pompey grabbed their first win of the League Two season with a 2-0 victory over Colchester today.

And the Blues boss confessed other sides’ spoiling tactics have shocked him as the hosts were made to work hard by a stubborn U’s outfit intent on playing purely on the counter-attack.

As it was, Gary Roberts was the man to break the visitors down as he netted a late double – the first a penalty – to move Pompey up six places to 14th position in the table.

Cook said: ‘I must admit I am relieved – it has been a long week, obviously, after losing at Morecambe.
