Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill: Portsmouth forward has decent future aheadÂ
Martin O'Neill hailed Ronan Curtis' attitude and insisted: He's got a decent future ahead.Â
The Pompey forward is currently on international duty with the Republic of Ireland for their friendly against Northern Ireland tonight and Nations League trip to Denmark on Monday.
It's the third time Curtis has been called up to O'Neill's squad '“Â reward for his scintillating form since arriving at Fratton Park in June.Â
The former Derry City ace has registered six goals and seven assists for Kenny Jackett's League One table-toppers this term.Â
O'Neill has been keeping tabs on Curtis' form.
He ran the rule over the charismatic winger in the Blues' 2-1 win at Peterborough '“ and was impressed with his performance. Â
Curtis assisted both Oli Hawkins and Jamal Lowe's goals in the London Road triumph.Â
Although the wide man awaits his senior debut '“ having been capped at under-21 level, O'Neill believes being around experienced pros such as Seamus Coleman will give the south London-born talent a lift.
And the Ireland boss has been delighted with the enthusiasm Curtis has displayed.Â
O'Neill said: '˜He's a really genuine lad. He's got loads of enthusiasm.
'˜I saw him play against Peterborough at club level a couple of months ago and he was excellent.
'˜I think he's got in there on merit. I think all those things are important.
'˜But just to be training with the likes of Seamus Coleman, it's a boost for someone so young.
'˜So it's great without the pressure (of playing matches).
'˜I also think he's enjoying himself with us, too. So I'm hoping he's got a decent future ahead of him.'
Curtis has been a vital cog during Pompey's push for the League One title so far this season.
He's swiftly endeared himself to the Fratton faithful and become a regular in Jackett's starting line-up.
O'Neill has been impressed by what he's seen of the Blues '“Â and insists promotion should be the club's main aim.
The former Aston Villa manager added:Â '˜Portsmouth are a fine side.
'˜They should be looking at promotion this season but that's someone else's issue.
'˜They are a big club and I think Ronan's enjoying it.'
