The forward’s bright 31-minute cameo shone through Pompey’s gloomy Exeter defeat last weekend.

His second Blues appearance since arriving from Hampton & Richmond represented a rare uplifting contribution during the 1-0 Fratton Park loss.

Former Barnet apprentice Lowe is back in the Football League having reinvigorated his career in the non-league game.

Rose can appreciate the journey, having himself featured for then-Blue Square Premier side Newport County before breaking into league football.

And he believes his new team-mate possesses the credentials to make a favourable impact.

He said: ‘Against Exeter, Jamal lifted the crowd straight away simply by being positive with the ball – and it was a breath of fresh air for the lads to see that.

‘It lifts the crowd, lifts the players and all snowballs into one. I’m sure Pompey fans will see a lot more of him.

‘In training he’s the same, he’s positive on the ball and wants to score goals, hopefully he can carry on his goalscoring form from non-league into here.

‘Jamal’s played in the Football League before at Barnet, so it’s not something that is new to him, he will not be overawed or be fazed by Wycombe away, for example.

‘Perhaps that happens to players who have never before been at that level, but players of Jamal’s ilk will always be positive, will always want to run at people and score goals.

‘I don’t think it matters too much what atmosphere you’re playing in, all they really care about is being positive.

‘Some players have that mentality where they just want to score goals and be positive – and that’s him.

‘Hopefully he can carry on his non-league goalscoring form and the positive approach so he has a good impact from now until the end of the season.’

Lowe has been among four new arrivals to Fratton Park during the transfer window.

Although an 18-month deal was agreed in October, the 23-year-old officially arrived at Pompey last month.

He was soon joined by Nicke Kabamba, followed by deadline day arrivals Eoin Doyle and Aaron Simpson.

And Rose revealed Lowe had settled in well.

He added: ‘Jamal’s a top lad.

‘It’s not like he has just come into the building, he trained with us in October so settling in wasn’t a problem.

‘Scoring a hat-trick for the reserves the other week was also a good thing to help settle him.

‘Goals are the best thing to make a player feel confident and he has scored plenty.

‘You can see that belief from his touch and the way he wants to drive at people and ultimately score goals.

‘You can definitely see his hunger.’
