Rule book leaves Guy perplexed

Guy Whittingham has been left scratching his head at the Football League after Alex Cisak's return to Oldham.

The Pompey caretaker boss is perplexed at league rulings which have seen Cisak recalled by the Latics – but Pompey unable to sign a loan keeper.

Cisak returned to Boundary Park after Dean Bouzanis was sent off against Doncaster this week.

That gives Paul Dickov’s side options in goal. But after the League denied Pompey the chance to bring in another loan outside of the emergency window, Whittingham is now left with Simon Eastwood as his only keeper.

He is now hoping there is a free agent around who the club can recruit ahead of next week’s trip to Tranmere.

Whittingham said: ‘The rules are the rules so there is nothing we can do about it.

‘It is not the luckiest thing to happen. They are the rules by which we have to abide.

‘There was a case to put forward. As there was a 24-hour notice that decision has to go to an executive committee of the Football League and they decide.

‘That is how it is, we all knew he was going to go back and rightly so. That’s what happens.

‘On the other side of things, because we have Simon Eastwood on our books, then we cannot bring another one in.

Oldham receive special dispensation to bring their keeper back - but there isn’t any for us to get a replacement.

‘We could bring in a free agent. We have not got a game this weekend and that gives us a bit of time to look around.’
